What is a GSTIN Score?

A GSTIN Score is a 0–100 safety rating for any GST-registered business in India, built from its public registration record. Instead of opening the GST portal and reading raw taxpayer details line by line, you get one number that answers the practical question every MSME owner has before paying an invoice: can I trust this vendor's GST standing?

The score is computed live from public GST data the moment you search — nothing is self-reported by the business. A low score doesn't mean a business is fraudulent; it means their registration standing has gaps you should look into before you hand over money or claim Input Tax Credit on their invoice.

The three signals behind the score

50
Registration standing — 50 points

Is the GSTIN active right now? This is half the score because it is binary for your money: ITC claimed against a cancelled or suspended GSTIN gets denied, full stop.

30
Business age — 30 points

How long has this GSTIN existed? A registration that has survived 3+ years of compliance cycles is statistically far less likely to vanish than one created last quarter. Fly-by-night billing entities are overwhelmingly young registrations.

20
Business structure — 20 points

Companies, LLPs and partnerships file incorporation paperwork and have directors on record — there is someone to pursue if things go wrong. Proprietorships aren't penalised heavily, but formal structures earn the extra trust they've paid for.

Trusted, Moderate or Risky — reading your result

Trusted72–100

Active registration, established age, formal structure. Proceed normally — just confirm invoices appear in your GSTR-2B as usual.

Moderate50–71

Active, but young or informally structured. Fine for small transactions; for large ones, ask for their latest return filing acknowledgment first.

RiskyBelow 50

Registration is not active, or there are serious gaps. Do not accept a GST invoice from this vendor until you've verified their status on the official portal — your ITC is on the line.

Check before you pay the invoice

Your ITC depends on them

GST you pay a vendor only comes back as credit if their registration is valid and they file. A cancelled GSTIN means the tax you paid them is simply gone.

Notices arrive years later

Department demand notices for ineligible ITC typically arrive 2–3 years after the transaction — with 18% annual interest stacked on top. A 10-second check now is the cheap option.

New vendor onboarding

Make a GSTIN check the first step when any new supplier sends you their details. It takes less time than saving their contact.

No portal gymnastics

Everything here is from public GST records — we just read it for you and turn it into a decision you can act on, in English or Hindi.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GSTINScore?
GSTINScore is a free tool that checks any GSTIN and shows you whether that vendor is safe to transact with from a GST compliance perspective.
Why should I check my vendor's GSTIN?
If your vendor hasn't filed their GST returns, your ITC (Input Tax Credit) won't appear in GSTR-2B. That means you could lose tax credit worth thousands of rupees.
Is this tool free?
Yes — completely free. No login, no signup, no credit card. Just enter a GSTIN and get results instantly.
How accurate is the data?
Registration and status data is sourced directly from public GST APIs. The score reflects registration standing, business age, and structure — always verify return filing on the official GST portal before making legal decisions.
Is the GSTIN Score a government rating?
No. It is an independent safety indicator computed by GSTINScore from public GST registration records. GSTN and CBIC do not issue scores. Treat it as a first filter, not a legal certificate.
Does the score check whether the vendor files returns?
Not yet — and we won't pretend otherwise. The score reflects registration standing, age, and structure. Return filing visibility (GSTR-1/3B recency) is on our roadmap; until then, cross-check large vendors in your GSTR-2B before claiming credit.
What should I do if a vendor's score is Risky?
Don't accept their GST invoice yet. Verify their status on gst.gov.in, ask them directly about the suspension or cancellation, and hold the GST portion of payment until it's resolved. ITC against a non-active GSTIN will be denied and can come back as a demand notice with interest.
Can I check my own GSTIN score?
Yes — and you should. It's exactly what your customers and lenders see when they assess you. Keeping your registration active is the single biggest factor; an established age and formal structure do the rest.
